How to Use the MRCOOL DIY 4th Gen Configurator

To get started, click the “Configure Your 4th Gen MRCOOL® DIY® System” button at the bottom of this post. This will open the configurator in a new window. You can also find the configurator on this Build Your Own MRCOOL DIY System page or in on this page with pre-configured bundles.

Select Your Zones

The first step is to choose how many zones you need to cover. For example, if you need a 3-zone unit, you would select the “2-3 ZONE” button, which is a 27,000 BTU condenser. For this system example, keep in mind that the air handlers you select must not exceed 34,000 BTUs or be under 20,000 BTUs.

Choose Your Air Handlers

When you’re ready to select an air handler, a drop-down menu will appear showing the air handlers that are compatible with your selected condenser. Larger condenser units will have larger air handler units available as options. For each room you need to cover, choose the appropriate air handler based on the square footage. 

You can use the following guide as a general rule of thumb:

1. 9k BTUs covers up to 375 sq. ft.

2. 12k BTUs covers up to 550 sq. ft.

3. 18k BTUs covers up to 800 sq. ft.

4. 24k BTUs covers up to 1,050 sq. ft. (wall mounted option only)

5. 36k BTUs covers up to 1,550 sq. ft. (wall mounted option only)

Keep in mind that factors like insulation, climate, sun exposure, and the number of people in a space can affect the BTU capacity you need. For an accurate estimate, have an HVAC professional perform a Manual J load calculation. 

Select Your Line Sets

On the next page of the configurator, you’ll choose the length of the line sets you need. Note that the maximum line set length for any of our DIY systems is 75 feet, and the total maximum length for line sets for the 27k BTU DIY® multi-zone condenser is 175 square feet. Choose the appropriate line set length for each air handler based on its distance from the condenser.

Review Your System

Once you’ve made all your selections, the final page will display your system and its components. Double-check everything to ensure it’s correct. After that you can:

1. Copy the product numbers in the bundle and call, email or live chat us to request we put together your order.

2. Copy the list of items to assemble the bundle yourself then use the search bar above and paste each product number individually, add to cart, and checkout.
